Strengthening the network
Gabriele von Fircks just recently took over the DAAD’s Development Related Post-Graduate Courses programme.  A historian and geographer, von Fircks had previously served as director of the DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi, after which she was responsible at DAAD for the Iberian Peninsula, France, Benelux region.

muhammad_khaskeia_privat_150A truly unique dialogue between faiths
October marked the start of the online Master’s programme “Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World”, a collaborative effort between the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Al-Quds-University in Palestine and the Freie Universität Berlin. The aim of the programme is to spark dialogue between Islam, Judaism and Christianity. While commonplace in the Middle Ages, in today’s world, interreligious exchange and encounter seem only to foment conflict.  The unique web-based degree programme will investigate this phenomenon while seeking new paths for bringing these religions and cultures closer together again. The students soon realised during the programme’s kick-off session held in Istanbul how much they actually share in common.

Farewell interview with Anke Stahl: Wrap-up and look forward
“Auf Wiedersehen” is how Anke Stahl says goodbye each year to graduates of the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses programme before they return to their home countries. This time it is the other way around: “Auf Wiedersehen, Anke Stahl!” The long-time head of the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses Department will be moving to Vietnam, where she will head DAAD’s Regional Office in Hanoi as of August 2013. We asked Ms. Stahl to give us a recap of the last several years and a brief look at what’s next.
